Great Lakes WISE

Accelerating Water Technology and Stewardship Together

A Meaningful Partnership

The binational Great Lakes region, North America’s economic engine, is the guardian of the largest surface freshwater system on the planet as well as vast supplies of water in underground reservoirs. To ensure this precious resource is used wisely and is protected for future generations, the Council of the Great Lakes Region and The Water Council are proud to partner to deepen ties in the region, with a focus on advancing corporate sustainability performance, accelerating water innovation and strengthening water stewardship across the region.

WAVE: Water Stewardship Verified

Business Value of Water

For companies in the bi-national Great Lakes region and around the world, water stewardship has emerged as a key good governance, environmental and social responsibility issue, with water risks changing at a rapid pace as a result of a changing climate and the loss of natural spaces. From food and energy production, to manufacturing and buildings management, all businesses need to account for how they use, conserve and impact water resources. WAVE and WISE will help your company understand the value of water and the unique water stewardship risks you face.

Companies participating in WAVE are prioritizing water-related action, mitigating water-related risk and addressing shared water challenges and opportunities while building a more water-resilient operations. The independent third-party verification of WAVE signals credibility to key stakeholders and communicates your commitment to corporate best practices in water stewardship.

Peer-to-peer networking through Great Lakes WISE (Water Innovation and Stewardship Exchange) helps expand your company’s reach and advance corporate sustainability engagement. Through WISE, corporate leaders can connect and exchange information concerning corporate water technology, stewardship, water resource advocacy, challenges and best practices.

“By working together, we can ensure the region’s vital water resources are protected for future generations and remain a competitive advantage.”

– Mark Fisher, President and CEO of The Council of the Great Lakes Region

“Companies headquartered in the Great Lakes region are often fortunate to have access to abundant freshwater, but they still face water challenges such as flooding and contamination. Further, with today’s international supply chain, companies need to take a global view of water.”

– Dean Amhaus, President and CEO of The Water Council
