FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
APRIL 14, 2022
The Council of the Great Lakes Region is pleased to partner with TVO to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Canada-United States Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement and the vital role that the lakes play in supporting Canada’s economy, people, and natural spaces, with a focus on Ontario.
Taken together, the five Great Lakes represent the largest surface freshwater system on earth. This vast inland freshwater sea also serves as the centre of a larger regional economy spanning the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec and eight American states, which if the region were a country, would be the third largest economy in the world.
“Fifty years since the signing of the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement, the topic of clean fresh water for all has only grown more vital,” says John Ferri, VP of Programming and Content at TVO. “TVO is delighted to partner with the Council of the Great Lakes Region to mark this important milestone and to look forward at what’s possible in the future.”
Mark Fisher, President and CEO of the Council of the Great Lakes Region adds, “We are honoured to be partnering with TVO this year to showcase the importance of the Great Lakes to Canada and engage Ontarians in critical conversations about what lies ahead for protecting these precious waters while supporting the region’s economy.”
Watch for more about the 50th anniversary of the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement and other Great Lakes issues starting this week on The Agenda with Steve Paikin on April 14th at 8:00 p.m ET on broadcast and streaming anytime after at the TVO.org, The Agenda YouTube channel and other TVO streaming channels.
